The 2024 Public Works Roadeo and Training held in the City of Pacifica on June 6th was a resounding success, drawing participants from various agencies in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties to compete, learn, and network. This event, hosted by the Silicon Valley Chapter, provided a unique platform for our field professionals in the public works sector to showcase their skills and connect with peers and industry sponsors.
This event brought together a diverse group of public works operators, vendors, engineers, and others, fostering an environment where attendees could build valuable connections. Networking sessions and informal gatherings allowed participants to exchange ideas, share best practices, and establish relationships that will benefit their communities long after the event has concluded.
A series of training sessions provided attendees with the latest insights and advancements in public works safety. Topics ranged from Confined Space to Trench Safety, equipping participants with the knowledge to enhance their performance and improve services in their communities. By participating in the expo, attendees gained new skills and insights that will directly benefit the communities they serve. The ability to learn from peers and industry experts helps elevate public works’ standards, ensuring better services and more efficient operations in their communities.
The highlight of the event was the equipment roadeo competition, where 20 operators from various agencies demonstrated their expertise and precision. This year, Jaime Monge from City of Belmont took first place, and Jonathan Anderson from Mid-Peninsula Water District came in a close second exemplifying the high level of skill and dedication prevalent among public works professionals. To celebrate their achievement, the APWA Silicon Valley Chapter will sponsor their participation in the National Roadeo that will be held on September 9, 2024, at PWX in Atlanta, Georgia. At our monthly general meeting on October 16 at Michaels Restaurant in Mountain View, we will welcome our top two finishers to provide the membership brief feedback on their roadeo experiences.
